Hodgson Vale is a mix of lighter texture-contrast soil and red basalt, with black clay in the low spots. The lighter soil drains and dries fast, so wetting agents help it hold moisture; the black pockets compact and crack, so aeration helps. Couch and QLD blue couch — both heat and drought-tolerant — do well here, along with kikuyu on the bigger blocks. On the lighter, drier, warmer ground, khaki weed is a real risk, so it pays to spot and spray it early before it spreads.
