Why we quote each property instead of publishing a price list

A tight courtyard in Newtown and a half-acre corner block at Highfields are not the same job, and a flat rate quietly overcharges the small blocks to subsidise the big ones. So we come out, look at the property, and price it on what is actually there. It's how we price all our lawn mowing across Toowoomba and surrounds.

$66 inc GST is our minimum charge for any mowing package, and the genuine starting point for an ongoing regular mow on a small, well-maintained yard. Most medium yards land between $88 and $110 inc GST. It is not a teaser rate and it does not climb once we are on site. Most homes sit above it, because most homes are bigger than that — but plenty of our regular clients pay exactly that figure every visit.

Ongoing service is priced better per visit than a one-off, for a simple reason: a lawn on a schedule never gets away from us, so it takes less time every time. A first cut on a block that has been left for two months is a different job to the fortnightly visit that follows it, and it is quoted separately.

What moves the price

Six things we look at when we quote

Lawn areaThe biggest single factor. A courtyard, a standard house block and an acreage property are three different machines and three different amounts of time on site.

AccessA gate the ride-on fits through changes the job entirely. Older Toowoomba lots often have narrow or gated side accesses, which means the compact push mower and more time.

Condition on the first visitAn overgrown block takes longer and produces far more to cart away. That first cut is priced on its own, then it settles into normal maintenance pricing.

How oftenWeekly, fortnightly and monthly are priced better per visit than a one-off. Through winter the interval stretches out naturally and your invoicing follows it.

Extras on the same visitHedging, garden beds, weed spraying or a green-waste load. Bundled into one visit they cost less than booking each separately.

Not travelThere is no travel surcharge anywhere in our area, out to roughly 35km. We run scheduled rounds by suburb, so a property on an existing route is priced the same as one in town.

What you get

Every mow includes the lot

Mow, edging, whipper snipping and a blow-down of paths, patio and driveway on every package. Clippings are mulched back in on Standard Cut, or caught and taken away on Complete Mow and Pro Care, and every package gets a bladed edge along the road frontage. We do not charge separately for the basics.

We never charge by the hour. An hourly rate means you carry the risk of a slow day, and it quietly punishes thoroughness. You get a fixed price agreed before we start, an itemised tax invoice afterwards, and no lock-in contract at any point.

Do you charge by the hour?

No. You get a fixed price agreed in writing before we start, and it does not move unless you ask for something extra. No hourly guesswork and no surprise on the invoice.

Is a one-off mow more expensive than ongoing?

Per visit, yes. A lawn kept on a schedule is quicker to cut every time, so regular clients are priced better than one-off calls. We do both, and there is no lock-in either way.

Do you charge extra to travel to my suburb?

No travel surcharge anywhere in our service area, which runs about 35km from the Toowoomba CBD — north to Hampton, west to Oakey, south to Cambooya and east to Gatton.

My lawn is badly overgrown. Will it cost more?

The first visit will, because there is more to cut and considerably more to cart away. After that it settles into standard maintenance pricing. No lawn is too far gone for us to take on.
