Red Ferrosol · texture-contrast
Preston is a mix of red Ferrosol and lighter texture-contrast soil on the southern ground. The red soil drains freely and dries at the surface (wetting agents help on dry patches); the lighter areas dry faster still. Couch, kikuyu and QLD blue couch are the common grasses. Winter grass and bindii are the cool-season weeds, and khaki weed is worth watching on the lighter, drier ground.
