The non-negotiable
In Queensland, working with children generally requires a Working with Children Check — a Blue Card — issued under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000. For a childcare centre, that isn't a nice-to-have; it's what your regulatory obligations are built on.
Plenty of grounds contractors work around it by scheduling outside hours and hoping the question doesn't come up. We don't need to. Any crew member attending while children are present holds a current Blue Card and a police check, so there's no scrambling if a visit runs into pick-up time or a centre director asks to see documentation.

How we work on your site
The record most contractors don't keep
If an assessment visit asks what was sprayed on your grounds, when, and by whom — you need to be able to answer. Most grounds contractors can't, because they never logged it.
We log every application: product, rate, date, area treated, weather conditions and the licensed operator who applied it. Records are supplied for your files as a matter of course, not on request.
That record is what schools, childcare centres, medical facilities and body corporates are expected to hold. It's also what separates a licensed operator from someone with a backpack sprayer — and it's why the ACDC licence exists.
For your compliance folder
Directors and business managers can request the full pack at any time — for your contractor register, an assessment visit, or a parent who asks.
What happens next
Deliberately in that order. On a childcare or school site, you shouldn't have to let a contractor walk your grounds before you've seen their clearances.
Common questions
Yes — anyone attending while children are present, alongside a police check. We don't send anyone to a childcare or school site who doesn't hold both, and we won't subcontract your site to someone we can't vouch for.
Yes. Early starts before drop-off are common, and we can work weekends or school holidays for larger jobs. Because our crew is cleared anyway, we're flexible rather than forced into a narrow window.
Applications are timed for when children aren't on the grounds, and we give the director clear re-entry advice — typically until the spray has fully dried. We're ACDC licensed and ChemCert accredited, which is legally required to apply herbicide commercially in Queensland.
Yes. We walk the ground first and pick up sticks, stones and debris rather than letting a mower deck throw them. It takes a few extra minutes and prevents the obvious risk.
Yes — Blue Cards, police checks, certificate of currency, SWMS and licence documentation, supplied before we start rather than when someone asks for it.
Yes — both. Schools tend to need larger-area mowing and holiday-period work; centres need tighter scheduling around a smaller site. The clearance requirements are the same either way.
