On the red soil the surface dries in summer (wetting agents help); on the black flats the soil holds water but compacts and cracks (aeration and coring are key). Couch and kikuyu are the common grasses, with buffalo on some blocks. Many established Wilsonton lawns have built up thatch and compaction over the years and benefit from a proper renovation. Winter grass and bindii are the cool-season weeds.
