Torrington

Torrington sits on the western flats, in the same black-soil belt the survey maps around Charlton and Kingsthorpe — heavy black cracking clay across much of the ground, with lighter texture-contrast soil in patches. The black clay holds a lot of water but drains slowly, going sticky in the wet and cracking hard in the dry, so aeration and coring are the fix; the lighter patches dry fast, where wetting agents help instead. Couch, QLD blue couch and kikuyu are the common grasses. Khaki weed is worth watching on the drier, lighter ground, and winter grass and bindii are the cool-season weeds.
