Government soil mapping shows Prince Henry Heights on basalt with red Ferrosols, the same free-draining red soil as the neighbouring eastern suburbs. On elevated, sun-exposed slopes that free drainage means the surface dries out fast, and sloped, north-facing sections are usually the first to turn water-repellent, so a wetting agent and aeration help keep moisture in the root zone. Holding the taller recommended cut on slopes leaves more leaf to shade the soil. Kikuyu, buffalo and couch are the common grasses, and couch and kikuyu slow and colour off after winter frosts. Winter grass and bindii are the cool-season weeds to stay ahead of.
Prince Henry Heights is a small residential suburb about 5 km east-north-east of the Toowoomba CBD, surrounded by Jubilee Park and Redwood Park, two large bushland reserves along Toowoomba's eastern edge, with Mount Lofty to the west and East Toowoomba to the south-west. It's named for Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, Governor-General of Australia from 1945 to 1947, though its boundary road was already called Prince Henry Drive before then. Jubilee Park alone covers 313 hectares of bushland, with walking and mountain-bike trails along the escarpment. There are no schools in the suburb; the nearest primary is Toowoomba East State School.
