Government soil mapping shows Wyreema town on shallow, brownish-black heavy clay over hard basalt, with deeper black cracking clay (Vertosol) around it and very shallow, stony red-brown loam on the far western side. The black clay holds water but compacts and cracks, so core aeration helps; the shallow and stony ground dries out fast and browns off first, so the taller recommended cut and deep, less frequent watering help. It's also colder than the city: the Cambooya Post Office station, the nearest, recorded a 2.0°C average July minimum and around 54 nights a year at or below 2°C, against a 5.3°C July minimum at the old Toowoomba station. Couch, Queensland blue couch and kikuyu are the usual grasses; expect frost dormancy and a later spring green-up.
Wyreema is a rural town and locality south-west of Toowoomba, between Westbrook to the north and Cambooya to the south, with Vale View to the east. It grew around the railway: Beauaraba Junction station opened in 1887 where the Beauaraba branch left the Southern line, and was renamed Wyreema in 1893. Wyreema State School opened as a provisional school in 1895, and Toowoomba–Karara Road runs north to south through the town. The population grew from 1,834 in 2016 to 2,076 in 2021, almost all in separate houses.
