Government land resource mapping for the Lockyer Valley shows Silver Ridge split between basalt country in the north and centre, where red Ferrosols dominate and surface stone is recorded, and Heifer Creek Sandstone country in the south and south-west, where the soils are texture-contrast Chromosols: a lighter topsoil over a denser clay subsoil. The red basalt soil drains freely but can dry out and shed water in summer, so a wetting agent and aeration help. The lighter sandstone topsoil dries quickly, while water can sit on the clay below it after heavy rain, so core aeration, the taller recommended cut and deep, less frequent watering suit it. Couch and kikuyu are the usual grasses, and both brown off with frost in winter.
Silver Ridge is a rural locality about 9.4 km south-east of the Toowoomba CBD, in the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area and sharing the 4352 postcode. It borders Rangeville, Middle Ridge, Blanchview, Derrymore, Flagstone Creek and Upper Flagstone. Most of the land is grazing on native vegetation, with homes mainly in the south-west along Flagstone Creek Road and Blanchview Road, and Rocky Knob rising to 570 m in the south. The locality was named in 1985, and the 2021 Census counted 188 residents.
