Drayton

Drayton is a transition zone — red Ferrosol on the higher ground, with texture-contrast and black-clay pockets in the lower and western parts. The higher ground carries the survey's Drayton–Kynoch association: shallow to moderately deep red clay over basalt with neutral to alkaline subsoils, which sets it apart from the acid plateau soils to the east. That means the right care depends on the block — red soil drains freely and dries at the surface (wetting agents help), while black pockets compact and crack (aeration helps). Couch and kikuyu are the common grasses, with buffalo on some blocks. Winter grass and bindii are the cool-season weeds, and a fair few Drayton blocks we first see need a reset.

Drayton is a historic suburb of older residential streets mixed with industrial-adjacent pockets, giving it a real range of block types — from tidy heritage-home lawns to larger commercial and semi-industrial blocks. We handle residential maintenance and commercial grounds work alike here.

Because the soil varies, so do the signs — hard, cracked ground on a black pocket wants aeration, while beading dry patches on a red-soil block want a wetting agent. Spongy turf is thatch (scarify), and pale growth is hunger (feed). Neglected blocks often just need a full reset first.
