Placid Hills

Placid Hills sits on fertile Lockyer alluvial country along the creek flats. The valley survey maps this ground as major-stream terraces and plains — black to brown soils, clay loam to heavy clay at the surface over alkaline carbonate subsoils, fertile and productive. They hold a deep moisture reserve of roughly 118 to 147mm in the top metre, so deep and less frequent watering works better here than little-and-often. It's warmer than the plateau, and the fertile soil grows vigorous couch, QLD blue couch and kikuyu that need regular mowing. Creek-side areas can hold moisture, while higher ground drains freely and can dry at the surface (wetting agents help). Khaki weed is worth watching on the lighter, warmer ground.

Placid Hills is a mixed-use locality on the western outskirts of Gatton, with Lockyer Creek forming much of its boundary — fertile farming and lifestyle blocks in the heart of the valley's productive country.

Vigorous growth outpacing your mowing wants more frequent cuts. Fast-drying higher ground wants wetting agents; boggy creek-side spots may need drainage attention. Spongy turf is thatch (scarify), and pale growth is hunger (feed).
