Red Ferrosol · black clay in low pockets
Cabarlah sits on the elevated red Ferrosol, with black clay in the lower, wetter pockets. The red soil drains freely and dries at the surface in summer (wetting agents help), while the black pockets compact and crack (aeration helps). The altitude suits kikuyu, which holds colour through the cool, and buffalo for its frost tolerance; couch and TifTuf appear on the sunnier, open blocks. In winter, warm-season grasses go dormant with the frosts — normal, not dead — and green up again in spring.
